GRANADA

It was the last Muslim city in the Iberian Peninsula, until 1492, when the Catholic Monarchs took it over. Granada is a modern city which has preserved an astonishing heritage. It is organised on five hills, the most important two are: the Albaicin, which was originally traced following the Islamic urban system; and the Palatial City of the Alhambra. Nowadays, Granada is one of the most important cultural and heritage enclaves of Andalusia.

Not only does Blanca have deep knowledge of the architecture, history and geography of the Alhambra and Granada, she worked professionally on projects to analyze and restore the Nasrid Palaces and water systems. On top of that, Blanca is quite skillful at communicating the brilliant complexity of the design and environs and how people inhabited the area through the ages. Blanca clearly enjoys sharing her love of the Alhambra and Granada as well as sharing her personal connections to the Flamenco community. With her kindness and enthusiasm, Blanca is a true guide and teacher and I am grateful for the time spent with her.

Our visit to the Alhambra in Granada was one of the highlights of our visit to Spain due to the fabulous half day tour provided by Blanca from Masquetours. Blanca is incredibly knowledgeable about all aspects of architecture and history and also very willing to share names of her favourite restaurants and bars. Blanca intimate and personal association with the Alhambra was fascinating too with relatives still owning shops and working inside the village in the same photography business from decades ago. Blanca picked up our interest in certain aspects of the dome design techniques (Murqarnas) and was able to concentrate more on this to really bring the palaces to life and tell us about her work in helping to conserve the palaces. Thank you once again for a terrific day out in Granada. Judy from Australia

Blanco feels like a friend showing us her hometown. We are completely at ease with her and during the trip we talk about many things from cost of living, personal interest & hobbies. We even share travel stories. There was never a moment of quietness, it was all talking like friends do on road trips.
